Next meeting July 25th

The next meeting will be on July 25th in Chester Library, probably in the teen area again.

We’ll be discussing The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein.

At the next meeting on 22nd August we will need to choose the last three books of the year, so we need to choose the shortlist at this meeting. Please come to the meeting armed with suggestions for books. We already have the books that didn’t make the cut last time (listed below) but these don’t necessarily have to be on the next shortlist. Anyhow, the books suggested last time are (in no particular order):

  • The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester
  • Old Man’s War by John Scalzi
  • Nor Crystal Tears by Alan Dean Foster
  • Solaris by Stanislaw Lem
  • Time Ships by Stephen Baxter
  • Perfume by Patrick Suskind
  • Banner of Souls by Liz Williams
  • Rim Runner by C. J. Cherryh

Next meeting June 27th

The next meeting is on June 27th, somewhere in Chester Library.

We’ll be discussing Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. This is the first book from Ann Leckie, and it’s the first of a trilogy. The second book, Ancillary Sword, is already out and Ancillary Mercy will be released in October.

The book has attracted consistently good reviews – see for example this review in the Guardian. While I’m not sure the book is especially deep and meaningful (probably a good thing!) I found it a really enjoyable read.
